WALKING football has taken off in Wiltshire.

The relatively new game already has more than 50 players and is looking for more people to take part.

Walking football is a slower form of the game and is designed for players who have mobility issues. It is part of the nationwide Football Association.

The rules are exactly the same as the regular version of the game, and there are no age restrictions.

Maggie Rae, corporate director, said: “Initiatives such as this help to improve general health and wellbeing for people. This is ideal for anyone who has mobility issues, or has had a previous injury.”

Wiltshire Council and Wiltshire Football Association work in partnership to support and promote the programme, with regular sessions held in Chippenham, Calne, Trowbridge and Lavington.

A new session in Salisbury is due to start on today and will bring the game to the south of the county. These sessions will take place at Five Rivers Leisure centre on Monday mornings between 10am and 11am.
