AMESBURY Town’s title meltdown continued on, ironically, the day they received the February club of the month accolade.

Last month’s terrific spell of winning five of seven matches in all competitions has not been replicated in a winless March, with four successive defeats.

The latest, on Saturday, was against United Services Portsmouth as a horrid final 15 minutes dictated their fate.

Two goals in three minutes from ex-Blues man Callum Coker and Samuel Steel put the visitors on course to victory before Eathan Rooke added a third late on.

The backlash of results has seen Amesbury crash to fifth in Wessex Division One - 16 points away from champions-elect Team Solent and six behind second-placed Tadley Calleva.

Deflated boss Gareth Horner, after watching the 3-0 loss, said: “The score line flatters US Portsmouth massively. We were by far the better side in the first half and should have been one up inside the first minute.

“They obviously had to up their game in the second half, but although they had a little more possession we were comfortable and didn’t look like conceding.”

“The difference is that three weeks ago we would be punishing sides in our attacking third but the lads are a little low on confidence, and as I’ve mentioned before our squad is extremely stretched.

“Hopefully, we’ll be nearly full-strength Saturday for the first time in weeks so let’s see how we go.”

Blues look to end miserable March with three points on derby Saturday, as they host Downton at Bonnymead Park (3pm).
