TALISMAN Rory MacTaggart paid tribute to his squad after captaining Salisbury’s season closer in emphatic fashion.

The skipper, who has scored more than 40 goals this term, added to his chart by netting the winner for the Lower Bemerton outfit at home to rivals Andover in Hampshire Area Division One.

Salisbury started in their customarily fine form and swiftly broke through the visitors’ defence. MacTaggart threaded through a pass to Tom Morton who coolly slotted home.

Salisbury continued to exert force on the visitors by hindering their defence. A routine penalty corner was converted superbly, Chris Warde clinically scoring from MacTaggart’s offload to secure a 2-0 half time lead.

Lapses in concentration coupled with mistakes allowed Andover to turn the game on its head and burst into a 3-2 lead.

However, a MacTaggart drag flick made the scores level before striking again for the end 4-3 win to finish third in the standings.

He said: “It was a shame not to sneak into second, however since the Christmas break we have only suffered one loss.

“The effort and commitment from the entire first team squad has been second to none.

“It has been an honour and pleasure to captain them this season. Finishing the season the way we have has been fantastic.”
