CITY of Salisbury Athletics and Running Club is unexpectedly looking for a new chairman and secretary after the present post-holders announced their decisions to stand down.

Outgoing chairman Simon Adlard has held down the voluntary role for 12 years during which the club has gone from strength-to-strength at road running, track and field athletics and cross country. Membership has risen steadily to more than 300 – and athletes’ level of performance is better than ever.

“The club is strong, and there’s now a group of people who are capable of taking things forward to still greater success in the future,” he said.

Tom Bradley, the club secretary for 11 years, added: “Simon and I have worked closely together for more than a decade.

“We plan to attend committee meetings alternately for the next six months during which the club can take a view on who the new chairman and secretary should be. I’m hopeful there will quickly be volunteers coming forward.”

In other changes, Mary Clements’ role as membership secretary has been filled by Laura Buchanan, Martin Phillips is handing over the track team management to Alan Munro and Rod Smith is handing over a large part of his road running management to Stuart Holloway and Dave West.

Lucy-Jane Matthews ended the indoor athletics season on a high in an under-13s pentathlon.
