EASTER for Downton was a case of what could have been after letting precious leads slip through their fingers in two derbies.

Colin Hopkins’ men collected two points from a possible six on the road following a 1-1 and 2-2 stalemate with Ringwood Town and Laverstock and Ford, respectively.

Declan McGregor gave the visitors a scorching start at Long Lane with a penalty kick but their slim cushion was cancelled out by Jason Hardy’s leveller for a share of the spoils.

And it was déjà vu for the Robins on Easter Monday as they were pegged back again as they went on to secure their ninth draw, which is more than any other team has attained this season in Wessex Division One.

Firm hits from Craig Tyson and Ross Bentall put their side in the driving seat but a roaring second half display from the hosts saw them turn it around in front of a decent crowd.

James Clifton netted 11 minutes after the rest, before Rob Gallagher restored parity shortly after the hour mark.

Both sides huffed and puffed in the final stages but were unable to muster a winner.

The draw sees Laverstock fall back to ninth, while Downton stay in 12th place.
