BOSSES in charge of an ailing local football league are urging teams to snap up the newly-introduced free entry system which takes effect next season.

A significant drop in teams entering the Salisbury and District League has seen it struggle.

But to keep it afloat and boost numbers, division chiefs are offering to waive league and cup fees for the district league competitions in 2015/16.

League secretary Rich Nelson said: “There have been many changes, but recent seasons have seen an alarming reduction in participants in the traditional 11-a-side adult weekend game.”

“Cost is one of the issues, also family and work commitments play a part, midweek indoor football has proved very popular and the choice of other sports has also taken its toll.

“We hope the removal of fees will ease some of the pressure on local clubs and hopefully encourage more sides to enter.”

South Wilts Charity Cup competitions will still be running again next season and entry fees will remain the same as in previous seasons.
