A SUPERB bowling performance saw Winterbourne pick up maximum points with victory over Hythe and Dibden seconds.

After losing the toss and being asked to field first, opening bowler Vaughn Browne was in fine form as he bowled four maiden overs in a row.

He eventually conceded his first run after 30 balls and then bowled two more maidens to finish with excellent figures of 10 overs for 14 runs.

Nick Fiddy was also bowling well, giving the batsmen nothing to hit and really piling on the pressure for the openers.

He took a wicket in his second over when Kevin James was caught behind for seven, and then Matt Newman clung onto Sanderson at second slip to leave the visitors on 13 for 2.

With both openers bowling their 10 overs straight through, Hythe were well behind a decent run rate at 35-2 off 20 overs in Regional Division One (West).

Manny Gurung chipped in with two wickets from 14 balls as Winterbourne bowled the opposition out for 102 in the 41st over.

Winterbourne knew that they could only lose two wickets in their run chase to get maximum points.

Jamie Harvey was cautious when he opened with Matt Windows, but the latter hit three quick fours before being caught at mid wicket pulling for 18.

Matt Shellum helped to put on 22 for the second wicket before being caught and bowled, and then Alistair Byrne joined Harvey knowing that Winterbourne couldn’t lose another wicket – and they didn’t, getting over the line with 12 overs to spare.
