THIRTEEN Sarum Orienteers were among hundreds who flocked to the Welsh Marches across the bank holiday weekend.

The three-day competition in Shropshire saw competitors tested among steep wooded slopes.

There were some fine Sarum results with Ben Chesters (M35) competing up a class and taking second place overall in the top M21 class.

Charlotte Thornton claimed overall second place on the W70 long course.

Couple Joan and Peter Hambleton had an excellent weekend as they finished first in W70S and M70S, respectively, with Peter achieving first place on all three days. Freda Peirce (third, W70s), Carolyn Dent (fifth, W50L), Liz Yeadon (seventh, W65L) and Dave Mullins (tenth, M65L) were other notable results for Sarum.

Sarum Orienteers are preparing for their club event next month. On Tuesday June 16 the club is meeting at the The Grey Fisher (7pm) for a 200m route in Churchill Gardens West.

There will be a map memory exercise, which will highlight the importance of observing and memorising detail. Afterwards, a meeting the social will be held in the pub.
