THE Wiltshire Sports Awards which recognise and reward athletes, clubs, coaches and volunteers from across the county are now open for nominations.

Now in its sixth year, the awards are separated into 12 categories and anyone can nominate an individual, team or organisation until the closing date of 5pm on Friday, August 7.

The top three from each of the award categories will be invited to attend the presentation event on October 21 in County Hall, Trowbridge. It will be hosted by former England rugby captain, Phil de Glanville along with a special guest who is yet to be announced.

Jonathan Seed, cabinet member for leisure and sport, said: “This is a chance for anyone to nominate someone, a team, or an organisation they believe is making a real difference and deserves to be recognised for what they do. We are looking forward to receiving those nominations, and to showcasing and awarding the amazing achievements of sports people and volunteers in Wiltshire.”

Maggie Rae, corporate director, added: "Sport plays a major part in our health and wellbeing. These awards aim to honour those who have achieved so much, as well as those who give their time tirelessly and enthusiastically to promote and and support the growth of sport in Wiltshire. Every year we get some outstanding nominations, and I’m sure that will be the case again this year.””

This year’s awards categories include Sports Personality of the Year, Young Sports Personality of the Year, Sports Personality of the Year (Athlete with a Disability), Unsung Hero of the Year, Long Service to Sport Award, Young Volunteer of the Year, Coach of the Year (Voluntary), Coach of the Year (Professional), Inclusion Coach of the Year, Young Coach of the Year, Sports Club of the Year, Sports Team of the Year (new for 2015)
