FOUR Salisbury swimmers have capped an excellent season by qualifying for the 2015 British Summer Championship in Sheffield.

The event, which takes only the 44 fastest swimmers from each discipline, requires athletes to post qualifying times in just a 13-week window.

The athletes, all from Salisbury Stingrays, qualify for the British Nationals if they finish in the top 24 while the other 20 gets places at the Home (English) Nationals.

Luke Demetri, 17, has had an outstanding season and has qualified in both the British Nationals in the 50m breaststroke and the Home Nationals in the 100m and 200m breaststroke.

Making their first Home Nationals appearances will be Sidney Fenwick, 15, in the 50m breaststroke, Oni Taiwo, 13, in the 50m and 100m freestyle and Lily Battersby, 14, in the 50m breaststroke.

Head coach Mark Corben said he was delighted with the number of swimmers who have qualified this year. He added: “They have worked hard, trained hard and their commitment to the sport has enabled them to qualify at this level of competition.”
