SOUTH Wilts seconds returned to winning ways at lowly Alton.

Having won the toss, South Wilts were again under early pressure losing both openers, Ben Draper and Sam Pittman with only scraping together five runs on the board. It was up to Joe Cranch and Rob Pittman to go about re-building the innings from an early stage.

With both looking well set, it was a surprise when Cranch was bowled by Pusey for 32 and with Pittman being narrowly run out on 53, the innings was in the balance at 95-4.

It was when captain Tom Pearce was joined at the crease by Dom Webb that the game swung in the visitors’ favour. With some impressive running between the wickets and some clean striking from Webb, South Wilts posted an excellent 237, with Webb falling for 45 and Pearce for 33 towards the end of the innings.

In reply, Alton were all out for 85.

Elsewhere, South Wilts thirds slipped to a narrow defeat against high-flying Fair Oak 2nds and the fourths lost their unbeaten record in 2015 after being edged out in dramatic fashion by league leaders and also unbeaten Winton 2nds.
