A JAVELIN throw that propelled Ottilie Knight into the under-15s’ record books was City of Salisbury athletic club’s highlight of the weekend.

Her success came in the Wessex Young Athletes’ meet at Woking where her throw of 37.08m smashed the league figures by three metres and lifted her into the country’s top 12 in her age group.

Next fixture in the league series is at Salisbury on Sunday 12.

Another record was struck by Hamish Mundell in a 400m hurdles in a finish so tight that the judges were unable to split the top three and all were credited with 59.3sec, breaking the club’s under-20 figures set 24 years ago.

This came in a Southern Athletics League fixture at Five Rivers track where the Salisbury host club came a good second against some stiff opposition.

Another record-breaker was Darren Clissold, who reset the masters’ 110m hurdles figures with a run of 21.0sec.

Jack Paget put the focus back on field events to win the shot, discus and pole vault as well as coming third in the 100m.

Both men’s under 20 relay club records fell too, with Hamish Mundell, Jack Paget, Rhys Gadd and Alex James the winning quartet in the 4x100 and Mundell, James and Gadd being joined by Gio Downey in the 4x400.

Fiona Pengelly switched from road running to win the 5,000m in a promising 21min 27.1sec, and in the B event Sarah Warren matched her success with a winning 21:35.3.

Other Salisbury athletes whose multi-eventing prowess scored the points that mattered were Emma Clarke, Megan Price, Ella-May Hards, Maisie Grant, Paddy Creese and Sam Rogers.

Elsewhere, another 14 year-old, Sam Coles took a good third place in the hilly Wellow 3.8miles, clocking 22min 47sec.

In the Lordshill 10k, Mel Holloway was timed at 49min 34sec and Ali Theobald was well under the hour with 57.47.
