AFTER last week’s disappointment when Hyde 2nds were unable to raise a side, Nomansland travelled to Bournemouth in the hope of finishing the season on a high, but rain led to an abandonment.

Taking first knock at Chapel Gate, it was soon apparent that the long grass in the outfield was going to prevent a high scoring game.

A rain break came after 35 minutes batting, with Nomansland on 34-2, but play was able to resume when the rain relented. The visitors swiftly slumped to a precarious 39-5 in the 16th over, but a determined Chris Walton was joined by the fast-improving James Mason in a useful stand.

Walton had dusted the cobwebs from his kit and was making his only appearance of the season, gradually finding his touch.

Nomansland had realised that 140 would be a good score in the circumstances and they added 70 in contrasting styles before both fell at 109. Carl Mason and Mike Rowland then took the score on to 120-7 before the more rain forced an early tea at 36 overs and brought an end to the match.
