DOWNTON Ladies' title dream was blown apart after falling to two defeats in their last three matches to finish fifth in the elite division of the New Forest League.

In the New Forest Finals, Downton were well represented and Dave Galpin beat David Hurst from Braeside to win the Officer’s Cup.

In the pairs, Downton’s Bill Amey (subbing for Bob Tanner) and Dave Emm lost to Alan Attenborough and Brian Cuckson from Fordingbridge. Attenborough had a good day going on in the afternoon to win the Singles Championship.

The Wilts Finals were played at Devizes and Salisbury played Wootton Bassett in the Tourist Trophy final but lost in a very tight game.

They also lost narrowly to Westlecot in the quarter finals of the 4 Rink League, as did Amesbury losing to Wootton Basset.

In another very close game, John Ellis, from Amesbury, lost to Steve Cornish 21-20 in the Greenkeeper’s Competition.

Men’s Singles: - Dave Galpin beat Alan Waters.

Ladies Singles: - Jean Cousins beat Wendy Hardy.

Men’s Pairs: - Bill Amey and Alan Waters beat Dave Emm and Dave Colgrave.

Ladies Pairs: - Ann Galpin and Wendy Hardy beat Jean Cousins and Barbara Davies

Mixed Pairs: - Ann Galpin and Alan Waters beat Barbara Davies and Geoff Warr

Open Sets: - Alan Waters beat Neil Gillespie

Two Woods: - Les Sainsbury beat Paul Whittick.
