FROM the north east to the New Forest, City of Salisbury runners represented their club in many parts of the country in the past week.

In Wiltshire, the main feature of the Great Wishford 10k is the tough first mile which is entirely uphill but, despite that, five of the club’s runners successfully reached the finishing line.

Graham Newman was well up the field with a time of 47min 42sec and he was followed by Andy Gillespie in 48.29, Aly Sloane 52.17, Steve Lomas 56.19 and veteran Tom Bradley going well with 58.05.

In the New Forest multi terrain marathon, Liz Roberts matched conditions underfoot with a run of 4hours 29min, then soon after completed the hard and hilly Purbeck marathon in 5.45. On the same hills, Alison Holloway made a welcome return to competition in the 16mile event, recording 3.14.02 paced by Phil Smith who crossed the line in the same time.

At the Yeovil summer 5k, Adam Bradburn clocked a good 18min 22sec, and in the Two Tunnels half marathon at Bath, Kathryn Dreyer emerged from the dark to finish in 2hours 38min.

With tens of thousands of Geordies for company In the very crowded Great North Run at Newcastle upon Tyne, Simon Adlard and Jerry Garrett encouraged one another all the way around the half marathon course to both finish with the clock showing 2.29.13.

At Watford Gio Downie notched a great 800m pb before the curtain comes down on the track season, his new best now standing at an excellent 1min 56.05sec, and Jay Domoney broke two minutes again with 1:59.9. Another personal best came from Sam Coles in a 3k at Havant where he recorded a fine 10:15.2, all three of these performances promising much more for next season.
