RUN-HAPPY Farley batsman Mike Covill has got the Hampshire League statisticians delving through the archives to check if his 1,110-run tally this season is an all-time record.

He is certainly the third batsman in recent times to score 1,000 runs, prolific Liss cricketer Richard Please and former Farehaven player Fred Selman having both posted similar tallies.

Covill, who captains the Salisbury-based club, scored his 1,110 runs at an average of 74.

He made four centuries – including a personal best 210 against Sway – and six scores of 50 or more.

Covill hit 147 fours – so 588 runs in boundaries – but will not be picking up a Regional 1 West championship winners medal when he goes to the Hampshire League dinner at Basingstoke on November 13 to collect his plaque.

Farley lost their end-of-season crunch match against Winton, so will be promoted into County 4 North next season as runners-up to the Bournemouth club.
