IRRESISTIBLE Salisbury FC opened up a three point gap at the top of Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division with a 6-0 blast at Team Solent.

Sam Wilson and Brandon Mundy set the Whites on their way to an 11th league win with first half efforts under the Friday night lights Test Park Sports Ground.

Ellis White's own goal, Wilson's second, Dan Demkiv's thunderbolt and a simple finish from Robbie Matthews concluded an easy win for the leaders.

Steve Claridge's men – who boast a superior goal difference of plus 41 – have Andover Town on their coat-tails, three points behind but with a game in hand.

A much-changed Whites, from the one that thumped Mere Town 7-0 in the Wiltshire Senior Cup, saw seven alterations in a strong XI.

Nathan Ball made way for first-choice keeper Gareth Barfoot.

In defence, Seth Burkett and Jack Vallis dropped out for George Colson and Steve Walker.

Skipper Kane O'Keefe, Danny Young and Demkiv were drafted in instead of Taurean Roberts, Jack Maloney and Matthews across midfield, while Wilson replaced Ashley Jarvis to lead the attacking line.

Similar to the cup encounter, Salisbury's pressure was soaked up until midway through the first half.

Wilson saw an early chance disappear when he took too long to get his shot away, after Demkiv’s right-wing cross was only cleared as far as the striker.

But he got his just rewards on the 21st minute.

Home stopper George Passingham's hurried drop-kick slammed straight at Salisbury attacker Danny Young.

The ball landed perfectly for Wilson, ten yards from an empty goal, and he slotted home.

And Claridge’s side only had to wait 11 minutes before they doubled their cushion.

Wing wizard Demkiv found space on the right after a terrific ball from Tom Whelan and he crossed for Brandon Mundy to nod home.

Passingham, who made partial amends for his earlier error soon after the restart, was left still-footed when teammate stuck out a leg on a cross which inadvertently sent Young's cross into his own net.

Then Wilson completed his brace soon after with a stinging effort across Passingham.

Demkiv added a fifth when rifling a rasping drive off the underside of the bar from Mundy's threaded pass.

All three of the visiting subs then combined to cap a perfect performance for the away side on a night, which included former Saints manager Lawrie McMenemy unveiling a new stand.

Roberts slipped a pass forward for Ashley Jarvis, who squared for Matthews to prod home.

“That’s the standard we have to aim for,” said Salisbury boss Claridge.

“I get frustrated when we don’t reach that standard - and the only reason we don’t is because we think it’s too easy.

“I think the players thought it was going to be a test and they were right up for it. They did exactly what I asked of them - they were brilliant.”
