LAVERSTOCK & Ford were put to the sword by in-form Sholing for the second time in a fortnight.

Their return to the Silverlake Arena ended in a 5-0 defeat as they were eliminated from the Wessex League Cup at the second round.

The in-form hosts, whose ground survived two pitch inspections, booked their place in the third stage thanks to a Dan Mason double, Doug Rowe, Byron Mason and Nicholas Yeomans.

The breakthrough came shortly after the half-hour mark when Lavvy, who were playing into a fierce wind, watched Dan Mason fire home a cross from Marvin McLean.

But the Lavvy players were fuming that the goal stood as they were adamant that McLean had ran the ball out of play. They protested to the referee but the goal stood.

Visibly rocked, Lavvy were 2-0 down moments later after a woeful clearance led to a brilliant reflex save from debutant goalkeeper Ryan Proud, only for the ball to ricochet off Rowe for number two.

Byron Mason killed the tie in first half stoppage time when rising highest to turn in a free kick.

Five minutes after the break Dan Mason notched up a second before substitute Yeomans grabbed a fifth.

Co-Managers Liam McConnell & Robbie Lakeman said: "The result will paint a picture but to have kept their side quiet for 32 minutes and look the more threatening was a real positive."

"The first goal absolutely killed us, you could see the lads were visibly dejected that the goal stood and they took advantage. However, with five of our first team being rested, we were pleased to hand debuts to three youngsters, Ryan Proud, Dan Wilkins & Taylor Budgell and, with our reserve side doing very well so far, it shows we have some real depth in this season's squad."
