SALISBURY City striker Matt Tubbs has been called up to the England National Game XI squad for this month's international tournament in Scotland.

The 23-year-old, who scored his 30th goal of the campaign at the weekend in City's play-off final victory against Braintree Town, will join Paul Fairclough's squad on Sunday as they prepare for games against Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Tubbs has netted 88 goals in just 158 games since joining the Whites from Dorchester Town in October 2003.

As well as helping Whites reach the Nationwide Conference for the first time in the club's history, the former Bolton Wanderers and AFC Bournemouth apprentice, netted City's equaliser in the FA Cup second round tie against Nottingham Forest late last year to force a replay against the former European champions.

Tubbs told the website: "It's great news - I'm over the moon. It's like getting promoted again!."I've just told my mum and dad and they're really happy for me."Tubbs said he was hopeful of playing in at least one of the trio of games, which kick off on Tuesday, May 22 against Ireland (7.45pm) at Inverness Clachnacuddin.England then play Scotland on Friday (May 25) at Ross County's ground (7.45pm), before returning to Inverness on Sunday (27) to take on Wales (4pm).The striker added: "It's a great honour and it shows what a great season the club has had. It couldn't have happened without the help of everyone at Salisbury."I spoke to the manager and he said I'd definitely play in one of them. I can't wait. I'm really looking forward to it."

City player-coach Tommy Widdrington, said: "I'm really pleased for the lad. He deserves this - it's a great opportunity for him personally and of course it shows how far we've come as a club that one of our players can receive this kind of recognition."
