RUSS Jones grabbed a brace as in-form Laverstock and Ford posted back-to-back victories in Sydenhams Wessex Division One with a 2-0 win over Fleet Spurs.

The victory, which consolidated Lavvy's fourth position, started midway through the first half.

The hosts, who were missing three players but bursting with confidence following their hard-fought win last Tuesday over Tadley Calleva, went ahead thanks to Jones. James Clifton's menacing cross was converted at the second attempt by the marksman.

Archie Lovegrove should have doubled their advantage, lighting up the Dell with a piledriver some 35 yards from goal that cannoned off the woodwork.

The second half saw a disciplined Laverstock contain Fleet's aerial threat, Olly Hoare and Max Donoghue leading the back line in the absence of skipper Phil Morgan in composed fashion.

And the result was confirmed 20 minutes from time. Jones broke clear and finished in style for his 14th of the term.

Joint Managers Liam McConnell and Robbie Lakeman told JournalSport: "We never really got out of third gear, it wasn't one of our better performances but when you can win games on the trot it's a rare treat. We know that won't be the case in coming weeks, the important thing today was three points again."

"We're up to fourth in the table and have been able to use the depth of our squad.

"We move on!"

Lavvy are away to East Cowes Victoria on Saturday (3pm).
