WELL-KNOWN Tony Husband handed out the awards at Hamptworth Golf and Country Club’s annual presentation evening.

The BBC South Today sports reader presented numerous trophies at the club, which is home to the famous Par 6, 666-yard hole The Beast.

Winners of the two main awards were James Christie who was club champion and Sue Jacobs who won the ladies’ title, with her husband John picking up the seniors’ club championship.

Other winners included Jo and Nick Shorrocks who picked up the mixed knock-out trophy and Steve Scott who won the captain’s drive-in.

Ian Parfitt and Alan Fee won the senior summer pairs, Mark Weeks won the founders’ salver and Nick Roper picked up the anniversary bowl scramble.

Rosemary Denman and Liz Bayford won the ladies’ pairs knock-out, Jeff Shrimpton was nett club champion and Jane Pike was ladies’ nett champion.

Also attending were representatives of the club’s croquet section with David Williams winning the Ken Smith Cup.

Afterwards owner Carl Faulds said: “It was a great presentation evening – my first as owner of Hamptworth.

“It was very generous of Tony Husband to give up his time and I’m sure all those present appreciated it.

“We are developing a stand-out course here which will test the best players but also be enjoyable for everyone else.

“The creation of The Beast has really put us on the map and everyone is looking forward to next year when all the current improvements to the course will be finished.”
