BAGS of quality roach have been banked from the main carrier on the London Angling Association's fishery at Britford over the past week.

Regular visitor to the fishery, Dave Curtis, used a feeder on a tip and caught over half a dozen roach, which included two specimens at 2lb 4oz each, two at 1lb 8oz each plus others at 1lb 15oz, 1lb 10oz and several over 1lb. He used bread in the feeder and on the hook and caught his memorable bag from a swim along the upper stretch of the carrier.

Another angler, fishing further downstream, also had a good day's fishing with five roach, the biggest at 2lb 9oz and four others all over 1lb.

The navigation channel has fished quite well for roach and dace with the odd larger chub, but following the weekend's heavy rain, much of the fishery is getting very difficult to reach.

The main river is mainly unfishable because of flooding and the speed of the current and over 30 per cent of the fishery is out of bounds due to flooding. With more rain this is likely to get worse rather than better.

Salisbury Angling Club welcomed Avon Angling Association to their Avon stretch at Stratford on Sunday, but it was hard going as the cold rain had lowered water temperatures. Mick Keynes won the match for Salisbury with 12lb 12oz from a peg on the top field whilst Dave Tucker secured runner-up spot for the host club with 8lb 12oz. Just two ounces behind was Ian Gittens for the visitors.

The fifth round of the annual Teams of Four competition was fished in atrocious conditions at Witherington Farm Fishery on Saturday with storm-force winds and heavy rain. Yet, weights were surprisingly good. Individual winners were Pete Newman with 88lb from the Inner Snake, Alex Nadin with 60lb 2oz from Cottage Lake and Dwaine Seed in third spot with 50lb 10oz from Sellwood Lake. Winning team on the day was Eastleigh Blue with 29 points. With three matches to go, Reid's Tackle maintain top spot with 136 points, Eastleigh Red are three points behind and in third place is Eastleigh Misfits on 122 points.

Thanks to the mild weather, lake fishing continues to be good and some quality fish have been caught. Salisbury Angling Club member, Roger Hunt, fished the club's BT Lake, near Landford, and banked a superb bag of perch, while Barnmoor Lake, at Witherington Farm Fishery, produced two carp last week, one at 24lb and the other at 21lb.
