THERE was Friday night fun for Downton after finishing their Sydenhams Wessex Division One campaign with a bang.

They ran out 3-0 victors at Fleet Spurs thanks to goals from Tom Aldridge, Shaun Prentice and Ross Bentall.

Aldridge broke the deadlock inside 15 minutes, coolly diverting home Shaun Prentice's parried shot.

Prentice then doubled the visitors' cushion; he skipped away from two defenders before sending the keeper the wrong way.

The second killed the game off and, while the visitors were enjoying some swift moves, Bentall produced an unstoppable pile-driver from 20 yards, which rifled into the net.

The win sees player-manager Ben Smith preserve his unbeaten status in the three matches he took temporary charge of the Robins following Colin Hopkins' resignation.

Player/manager Smith, who will assist new manager Rae Hughes at the start of the 2016/17 term, said he's pleased with his stint in charge.

"Keeping three clean sheets in a row is something we haven’t done all season and now the lads have shown me, as well as on-looking manager Rae, what they can do if they really want it," Smith told JournalSport.

"It has been a pleasure to manage the last three games with a great bunch of hardworking lads and to finish the last game of the season like that was the icing on the cake for me."
