HAMPSHIRE LEAGUE – REGIONAL DIVISION 1 WEST

A TERRIFIC all-round performance from Paul Veit saw Breamore romp to a nine-wicket victory when they entertained Hyde at The Marsh.

Will Hayward (53) and Lewis Ball (30) put Hyde in a good position at 114-3 but then they lost wickets to Veit (4-31) and Marcus Locock (3-22) and were all out for 133 in the 44th over.

Breamore lost Shaun Marlow (12) at 45 but then Veit (56 no) and Steve Marlow (36 no) saw them home without further loss in the 31st over.

Chasing Shrewton 2nds’ 205-5, Godshill made a poor response before an unbeaten ninth wicket stand of 83 between Paul Beale (31 no) and Jim Harrison (30 no) enabled them to get within 18 runs of their opponents’ total.

Mike Barton (64) and Tim Anderson-Emm (33) put on 69 for Shrewton’s first wicket and then Tim Pottage scored a brisk 47 with Clive Bealey taking 2-27.

Godshill lost Jason Cooper (18) as they struggled to 40-4 and 60-6 but John Bayliss (32) and Neil Fotheringham (17) stopped the rot before they slumped to 104-8 and, thanks to Beale and Harrison, they finished on 187-8.

Damerham were without their new skipper Henry Gilbert for their visit to Parley 2nds and his absence was felt as, after being bowled out for 107, they lost by five wickets.

Progress was slow against the accurate Parley attack and at the half-way stage, Damerham were struggling at 41-4. James Vincent (34 no) and Mark Colbourne (20), who is still nursing a hand injury, tried to increase the rate but wickets tumbled before the innings closed off 38 overs.

Steve Osborne (4-38) did his best to keep Parley in check but Martin Ayres (52 no) steered them home in the 35th over.
