FARLEY slipped to a heavy 104-run defeat at home to Burley.

Having inserted the visitors on a sluggish track, Farley's opening attack began steadily but couldn't force an early breakthrough.

Geoff Ramsey removed the prolific Hudson in the 17th over, with the score on 59. Lewis Wakeford then took a stunning left-handed running catch at long on for the second wicket, but that was as good as it got for Farley.

Third wicket pair Johnny Beck and James Edworthy added 154 in quick time, before Edworthy fell for 91. Beck ended unbeaten on 84, as Burley racked up 273-5. Ramsey with 3-45 was the pick of a bedraggled attack.

The Farley response started in the worst possible way with a wicket off the second ball. Edworthy and Beck again did the damage, reducing Farley to 16-3. Farley couldn't get going and by the halfway point were 66-6. A seventh wicket stand of 86 between Ramsey (65) and Ted Glanvill (47) gave Farley some respectability but they finished on 169 all out - man of the match Edworthy with 3-7 off nine overs.

There was better news for Farley's second team, who snatched a memorable two-win run against local rivals Winterbourne.

Phil Owen topscored with 31, and in company with Ed Nash, grabbed a vital 13 runs off the last over of the innings to see Farley to 129-8.

Ed Stagg's skiddy seam took the prize scalp of Jamie Harvey in the third over, and Farley were in the game. The bowlers all did their job and it came down to the final over with Winterbourne needing eight for victory, which they failed to reach.
