SALISBURY Sparks Under 16s overcame nemesis Winchester Royals in a heavyweight end of season play-off final.
The Sparks were in front from the second quarter with Winchester becoming more agitated as they were left chasing the Sparks' increasing lead.
Good defence from Salisbury made it difficult for Winchester to score. At the other end of the court, smart thinking by head coach Lee Duckett and coach Peter Sneddon saw the Sparks using well-practised plays to break down Winchester's zone defence.
Joe Tully kept the Sparks focused and put in a powerful performance himself earning him the play-off finals' most valuable player award.
Despite a high energy comeback from Winchester, the Sparks blazed ahead-winning the game 59-50.
"The hard work and dedication of all players, coaches, supporters and committee members was rewarded on Saturday with a well-deserved trophy in the Sparks' first, but definitely not last, season!
"It's fantastic that these guys won this trophy in their first season. Thanks to their coaches these guys have bonded well and their basketball and confidence has improved all season," said club founder and chairman Aleister Martin.
