WILTSHIRE's rain-affected Unicorns County Championship match at Corsham ended in a four-wicket defeat.

Having been put into bat on the first day, Wiltshire had reached 222 for seven wickets when rain brought a premature end to the day's play. Play could not start until 3pm on the second day and Wiltshire declared on 276 for nine wickets. Jon Sore scored 54 not out and Tahir Afridi 52. Cornwall then batted and by close of the second day they also declared on the same score of 276 for nine wickets.

The third day saw Wiltshire start their third innings and had slumped at one time to 78 for five wickets before a recovery by Mike Coles (61), Patrick Grieshaber (41) and Tahir Afridi (54 not out) took the total to 244 all out. This left Cornwall about 55 overs to score 245 to win which they achieved with eight balls remaining and a total of 248 for six wickets. Matt Robins scored 76 and Greg Smith 66 not out.

Wiltshire's captain Michael Coles retired from three-day cricket as a result of work and fitness considerations.

Vice-captain, Ed Young, will take over the captaincy for the remainder of the season with Ashur Morrison as vice.
