THE future of Salisbury and District's Saturday league is under threat.
The Premier and Division One have amalgamated after the exit of six teams.
That means there is just one division left, which comprises seven sides.
The league, now in its 125th year, previously ran three leagues which was whittled down to two at the end of 2012.
But now, with increasing pressure on grassroots sports, league secretary Richard Nelson has warned that the 2016/17 season could be the last.
He explained: "As with other leagues at this level, there has been a big decline in recent seasons, the emergence of midweek six-a-side leagues and the loss of sides to bigger local leagues also had an effect. With the support of the Wiltshire FA, we will do all we can to keep the league going.
"It is important to have traditional Saturday grassroots football continue in Salisbury."
