VETERAN Mike Brewster produced a cracking run at the Lordshill 10k in Southampton.

Less than a minute down on eventual winner David Coak of Eastleigh Running Club for much of the distance, the City of Salisbury runner finished in a fine 35min 31sec for fourth place.

Phil Perry maintained his form with 44.40 and Ali Theobald clocked 57.55.

Off road, among the steep hills of the Giant’s Head marathon near Cerne Abbas in Dorset, Liz Roberts clocked a good 5hours 30min 03sec and Charlotte Boardman was not far behind in 5.45.42.

At the nearby Sydling Hill Race, Andy Robbins and Jay Friedlander shared the pace on the tough six-mile course and stopped the clock at 72min 32sec. They were followed by Kathryn Dreyer in 80.07 and Marilyn Hunt in 85.47.

The Salisbury club’s track and field athletes received a boost with the news that four of its up-and-coming prospects had been selected for the English Schools' championships at Gateshead next month.

They are new member Kieron Appleton in the 80m hurdles (St Joseph’s), Jaymee Domoney in the 1500m (Bishop Wordsworth’s), Ottilie Knight, javelin and Georgina Henry, shot-putt, both of whom are from St Edmund's.
