SOAKING wet wickets caused by the previous days’ rain, coupled with torrential downpours, decimated the Hampshire League programme.
Just 35 results were achieved from the scheduled 152 games due to be played.
The least affected area was in the south west where more games were played than called off although many suffered rain interruptions and revised targets had to be worked out for the teams batting second.
Verwood was one side that started a journey to their opponents only to be turned back. The players were on their way to IBM Hursley for their County Division 4 West game when skipper John Driscoll received a call en-route to say that the pitch was flooded after a thunderstorm and no play would be possible.
“It was very disappointing to nearly get to Hursley and then not get a match but there’s nothing you can do about the weather,” said Driscoll.
