A STRONG batting performance saw Winterbourne romp to their biggest win of the season.

They racked up 266 runs, which CBBEA couldn't get close to as they secured a 144-run win in County Division 4 West.

The new opening pair of Matt Windows and Ed Dadd got off to a flying start of 24 for the first wicket in five overs.

Dadd was first to go, bowled by Duncan Burt for 13. Windows followed three overs later, bowled by Marcus Senior for five.

Charlie Everett led the way, hitting 36 from 29 balls before being caught behind off the bowling of Matt Parnham. When Marcus departed second ball, Winterbourne were in trouble at 83 for 4.

Jamie Harvey, struggling with a hamstring injury and batting down the order, joined Leon Marcelle and the pair put on a rapid 23 runs before Marcelle holed out at long on for 25.

Will Everett, the next batsman in, started to show his class with Harvey. However, in the 24th over Harvey again ran himself out in the same pattern like in the last weekend. A direct hit saw him out for 34 from 22 balls and with wickets falling at regular intervals it was looking unlikely that 'Bourne would even reach the 200 mark.

However, Will Everett and Chris Breeze put on a vital partnership of 88 runs. Manny Gurung, who broke his thumb, kept the momentum going with 23 from 16 balls, including a one handed six. The tail took the score up to 266.

Defending their highest score of the season, Winterbourne got off to the perfect start as Nick Lawrence bowled Steve Light for 4 in his first over.

And after 20 overs, CBBEA were 67 for 6 and out of the game.
