CITY of Salisbury senior men’s runners made a flying start to their Hampshire cross country league season at Farley Mount near Winchester, the ten-strong squad coming away with only City of Portsmouth ahead of them in the second division table.

Jaymee Domoney was highest-placed in the six-mile race, taking an excellent fourth among the under 20s and 17th spot overall in his first outing as a senior.

It was the good packing of the middle order that took the club above most of their league competitors. Ed O’Gorman was 53rd, Ian Shelly 93rd, Peter Windross 110th, Will Watson 132nd, Kevin Tilley 133rd, Andy Holme 188th, Mark Cole 194th, Jon Kershaw 230th and Gary Domoney 254th.

Di Cross was the club’s sole representative in the senior ladies and she did well to finish 120th.

Among the under 13s, Rose Warren led the Salisbury girls home in 26th and she was followed by Alice Oliffe-Lee in 33rd, Ellenor Bessey 50th and Emily Warren 56th. In the boys’ race, Lucas Bailey was 16th and Jago Saunby 86th.

Nile Battey was 19th in the under 15s and Louise Webb 38th. Fabrice Webb was 30th in the under 17s and Tasha Mundell 38th.

Eddie O’Gorman made it a successful weekend when on Sunday he won the Chalke Valley 10k in a swift 37min 04sec, untroubled by his efforts of the previous day.

Barry Hards was 12th with 42.18, Alex Mundell was second in the women’s race with 45.17, Ella-May Hards clocked 51.42 and Mark Williams 73.44.
