SARUM Orienteers struggled at the Compass Sport Cup and Trophy in Tankersley Woods, north of Sheffield, finishing in sixth place.

Some 34 competitors made the trip north from Sarum, who were among 900 orienteers from 19 different clubs.

Lucy Butt - a finalist for the upcoming Journal Sports Awards - put in the best performance for Sarum, winning the CST Blue course to take the maximum 100 points.

Lisa White also had a great run, coming third on the women’s green course (98 points). The other major counting scores were on brown, Ben Chesters (94) and Jack Benham (88).

Short brown course finishers were Harry Butt (97) and Paul Lane (89); on blue men Charles Bromley Gardner (90) and Colin Metcalfe (85), on green women Carolyn Dent (87), on short green veteran Peter Hambleton (96) and Ian Peirce(94), on junior women Hazel Cutler (84) and on women’s orange, Matilda Thirkell (90).
