SEVEN City of Salisbury athletes lined up among the massed ranks of the 20,000 competing at Portsmouth’s Great South Run.

In favourable conditions with a rapid wind-assisted finishing stretch along the seafront, fastest of the group was Steve Auton just outside his best with 66 minutes and 22 seconds. He was followed by Lee Syrett in 66.44.

Nick Hudson added to his haul of repeated improvements this season, knocking a huge seven minutes off his previous personal best with an excellent 70.26.

Not far behind was Phil Perry in 73.23 and then came Darren Clissold 82.40.

Jackie Chlebowski was the club’s other star of the day, her 91.23 also slicing seven minutes off her previous fastest at the distance, and completing the group Mel Holloway was timed at 109.08.

Along the coast at the Weymouth 10 mile, Eddie O’Gorman clocked 62.06.
