A GROUP of teachers from a Salisbury school slipped on their running shoes as they completed the Great South Run in memory of a popular colleague.

Lisa Milner, Sarah Hayakawa, Sharon Rideout, Nick Martin and Rebecca Roycroft from St Edmund’s remembered Bobby Magill, who died in April this year.

The team, which were among some 20,000 runners at Southsea for the annual 10 mile race, raised more than £1,000 for Dorothy House Hospice. The charity supported Mr Magill, who was head of religious studies and worship for 10 years at the school and was described by students as “inspirational” and “a teacher I will never forget”.

Mr Magill was first diagnosed with pancreatic cancer over two years ago but carried on teaching while receiving treatment and ensuring that students in his care gained excellent results.

“Our goals were simply to raise as much money for Dorothy House Hospice and to actually finish the run and not end up in an ambulance,” said geography teacher Rebecca.

“The run itself was enjoyable and the atmosphere and support were fantastic, so much so that we’ve all signed up already for next year!

“We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone, including parents and students who donated money.”
