IT’S all smiles at Laverstock and Ford who were named Club of the Month for October.

The Sydenhams Wessex Division One leaders picked up the accolade after an intense month.

Lavvy won six of their eight games in all competitions, which included away victories at Shaftesbury, New Milton Town and Fleet Spurs.

After hearing the news, co-managers Liam McConnell and Robbie Lakeman hailed their charges, who have lost just two league games all season.

“The award is for the players, they have worked hard to earn that and their position in the table too,” they beamed.

“It’s always nice to receive plaudits for your efforts throughout the season, it shows we’re doing the right things and heading towards the actual objectives we have set ourselves.

“It’s a great accolade for the club to receive this award, we won a ‘club of the month’ during last season for the first time in the club’s history so to do it again adds to the positive feeling the club as a whole is generating.”

“Hopefully, it’s not the last one we receive, but if it is, as long as there’s a bigger prize come the end of the season the chairman and everyone involved will still be smiling.”

In addition to the first team’s award, the Ladies’ XI, managed by Karen Musselwhite, who was voted Coach of the Year at the Journal Sports Awards, pulled off a cup upset at the weekend.

They beat favourites Chippenham Town, who are from a higher league, on Sunday 3-2 to progress to the semi-final of the Wiltshire FA Women’s Cup.

McConnell and Lakeman added that the reserve side and youth teams are making “real inroads”.
