BEMERTON Heath Harlequins and Amesbury Town shared the spoils as their Sydenhams Wessex Premier derby at Western Way ended in a goalless stalemate.

Jake Rawkins was denied by the upright early on before he crossed for Sam Griffin, whose header was tipped onto the post.

Rawkins was in the thick of things again moments before half time when his corner was met by a trademark header from Jon Blake, which rattled the woodwork.

After the interval, Griffin and Scott Joyce both had efforts to snatch the winner, but they couldn't find a way through.

Bemerton manager Graham Kemp said: "To be fair, Amesbury defended well and there were few chances second half.

"I would have taken a point before the game but felt we did enough to get all three. "That's two good performances on the trot, though, and we are gradually getting players back."

In the opposite dugout, Blues boss Jim Macey said: "A fair result in the end."

"They hit the woodwork a couple of times, we had two penalties turned down, which I'm not sure how, but overall another decent performance - especially second half."

Elsewhere, Laverstock and Ford have been overtaken at the top of Wessex Division One by rivals Hamble Club.

Lavvy's derby with Downton was postponed due to a frozen pitch at Wick Lane, while Hamble picked up a 2-1 victory over Folland Sports to move into top spot. They hold a one point lead over Lavvy, with a game in hand.
