DOWNTON made the dream start to 2017 as they romped to a 4-1 victory over ten-man New Milton Town in Sydenhams Wessex Division One on Tuesday night.
Assistant player/manager Ben Smith fired Robins in front from the spot midway through the first half following a foul on Shaun Prentice.
Shortly after, the hosts were reduced to ten men.
And the visitors made the numerical advantage count as Ross Bentall tucked home a Dan Telfer corner before Prentice rifled home a third.
Matt Cox's free kick was netted by Kieran Osman after the break to make sure of the points.
Milton added a consolation late on to scupper Charlie Aldridge's chances of a clean sheet.
In the Wessex Premier, Bemerton Heath Harlequins sealed their first league win in three months on Tuesday night after thrashing Bournemouth Poppies 4-1.
Meanwhile, Amesbury Town's game with Fareham Town was called off after the pitch at Bonnymead Park froze.
