NEW team on the block, Whitemoor Lake, have made an impressive start to their first appearance in the Teams of Four league.

They took the honours in Saturday’s competition at Witherington Farm Fishery, earning 39 points out of a possible 44. This convincing win puts them on top of the league with a total of 139 points, just one ahead of Barney’s Blacks. In second place on the day were Andover Browning Red with 29 points.

The fishery’s lakes fished better than expected for the competition, with top individual, Pete Bailey, netting an impressive 69lb 8oz from Sellwood Lake. Runner-up, Darrel Mayers, banked 39lb 10oz from Cottage Lake.

Earlier in the week, the fishery hosted an open silver fish match on Barnmoor Lake and this was won by Martin Rogers with 20lb 8oz. Ray Kelly was second with 20lb 4oz.

Salisbury Angling Club members had a hard day for their club match on the Nadder, on Sunday. The river was fairly high and coloured, although the colour started to clear as the day wore on but that did not help the fishing very much. Paul Barnard won the competition banking 14lb of mainly chub from Deanery Meadow. Charlie Wernham was second with 13lb 5oz and Andy West was third with 8lb 12oz.

Anglers visiting the London AA fishery at Britford have also found the going hard for most of the week, although some days produced a few fish. The navigational channel seems to have fished the better of the fishery’s waters with some roach to just over a pound coming to the nets. The level has started to drop slowly and the colour is improving so, if there is no more heavy rain, sport could improve.
