A NEW under 21 league could be formed in a plea to boost the struggling Salisbury and District Football League.
The launch of a new division has been discussed by Wiltshire FA and officials on the league’s committee.
It is aimed at teams within a 25-mile radius of Salisbury Market Place, with games taking place midweek or on a Saturday to encourage both junior and senior sides to participate.
Robert Begg, who is an honorary treasurer for Salisbury and District Football League, explained the following in his letter to clubs’ secretaries.
“The Wiltshire FA has been involved in the initial discussions and supports the initial proposal.
“They, on our behalf, will be contacting surrounding County FA’s for their approval to promote this exciting opportunity to their member clubs."
The Salisbury and District League Premier and Division One amalgamated this season after the exit of six teams, leaving just one division which is now in its 125th year.
The deadline for teams to register their interest is Wednesday, March 15.
