UP-AND-COMING star Jaymee Domoney opened his 2017 account at Lee Valley in East London by clipping more than three seconds off his previous best for 800m.

On the tight indoor track in a middle distance open event, the City of Salisbury teenager took third place in his event with a highly-promising 1min 54.65sec, setting a marker for further successes once the outdoor season gets underway.

In the centre of Birmingham’s indoor track, Molly Hole cleared 1.65m in the under 15s' high jump to rank age-group number one in the UK.

At the Bramley 20mile road race near Reading, one of the region’s traditional fixtures that runners use to prepare for the forthcoming marathon season, Rithy Hy was the club’s quickest on the day, his 2 hour 17min 03sec time showing he too is close to his best form.

Angus Paton also produced a good run, with 2.20.13 that was within sight of Clive Smith’s 2.20.45. Jane Whiteley clocked 3.21.41 and Colin Martin was comfortably inside four hours with 3.50.12.

Elsewhere, the City of Salisbury 10mile road race on Sunday, April 9 is already sold out, the limit of 850 starters having been reached.

Demonstrating the booming popularity of running in the area, this is by far the earliest that race organisers have had to close entries which include more than 40 from the City of Salisbury club.
