A THIRD win on the Isle of Wight was completed by Fordingbridge RFC on Saturday.

After defeating Sandown and Shanklin and Isle of Wight, they secured a 59-5 win over Ventnor.

Two tries from Peter Scott, standing in at fly half, one apiece from acting captain Mat Norton and Archie Gavin gave ’Bridge the four try bonus point within 30 minutes. Continuing his great form with the boot, Norton converted three of these to take Fordingbridge up to the break 26-0 ahead.

However, Ventnor were not letting the visitors have it all their own way and scored a minute before half time with a push over try. Although the conversion went wide, the game was still open at this point.

But this was to be the last score for the home side as Fordingbridge maintained the pressure with two further tries from Gavin and Peter Scott, both of whom achieved a hat trick.

Then, further tries from Jake Kostelyk and one from Dan Brown saw the match finish with a resounding win for Fordingbridge 59-5.

Despite New Milton losing on the Island, their grip on the top of Hampshire One is still firm and, with only three matches remaining, Fordingbridge can now not challenge for the top spot.

Norton said: “This tough victory away from home was the spur we needed to keep the winning streak going through to the end of the season.”

With no match next weekend, Fordingbridge entertain Fareham Heathens on Saturday, March 25.

Next month sees them travel to Romsey before hosting Chineham.
