SALISBURY RFC seconds are the new champions of the Dorset and Wilts Shield.

The Green and Whites romped to a 19-10 victory over North Dorset at a windswept Warminster in Saturday’s final.

Mike Dauwalder crashed over for the first score, converted well by Jack Tibbitts to give Salisbury a comfortable 7-0 lead.

Green and Whites then extended their lead courtesy of a Pete MacLennan try, Tibbitts adding the extras.

Dorset pulled back three points via a penalty kick before the interval as the teams turned around at 14-3.

Following the interval, Salisbury came under increasing pressure at the scrummage and struggled to relieve the pressure with their kicking.

Despite some dogged defending, the line was eventually breached bringing North Dorset back to 14-10 and a real boost to their confidence.

But as the game entered the last 20 minutes, James Hill, Andy Herriott and Matt Dodkins all made clean breaks, but only one more score was forthcoming when Bobby Saunders dived over for a deserved score.

n SALISBURY RFC girls defeated Warminster 55-15 in front of a good crowd at Castle Road.

Both teams produced some fantastic rugby that kept the crowd entertained throughout with powerful runs, diehard tackling in defence and great work in attack. The level of skill and commitment shown by both teams made for a performance the club will be proud of.
