SALISBURY Angling Club’s final match of the current season took place on their lakes at Petersfinger and proved to be a successful last day, ending the match season on a high note.

Twenty-two anglers turned out and both lakes were used with many of the competitors enjoying a good day’s fishing in warm spring sunshine.

The top three weights were quite hefty, with Tony Roff landing six quality bream plus a few others to win the match with 27lb 3oz. Malc Pepperill was second with a mixed bag weighing 23lb 2oz and Ian Heydon was third with 19lb.

Attention now focuses on commercial fisheries until the new season in June and sport is beginning to improve as the weather warms up. All lakes at Witherington Farm Fishery are fishing well with silver fish and carp. Barnmoor Lake in particular is fishing well for big carp and two were banked during the week, the best at 28lb caught by Shaun Turner and the other at 22lb landed by Lee Barney.

Although Waldens Farm Fishery is up for sale and on the market, it remains open and here too, all the lakes are fishing well, in particular the top match lake which has been giving anglers good sport with smaller carp, roach and rudd and the occasional perch.

Perch have also featured in catches at Dandy’s Ford Lane Fishery at Wellow along with plenty of silver fish. A weekend silvers match saw more than 200lb of fish landed and as the weather improves so does the fishing. Matches on other lakes at the fishery have been yielding weights in the 50lb range and the indications are it can only get better.

The warmer weather is encouraging tench to start feeding at Watergate Farm Fishery at Bulford and along with plenty of carp to just under double figures, sport is improving all the time.
