WING three quarter Callum Butler bagged four tries before departing on his travels as Ellingham and Ringwood ended their season with a 64-27 victory over Ventnor.

In addition to Butler’s quartet, tries were also scored by full back Chris Frost, centre Joe Walsgrove, number 8 Fletcher Harnish, fly half Charlie Cockram and scrum half Josh Butcher who also kicked a penalty and eight conversions.

This victory in Ellingham’s final game of the season secured a fifth place finish in Snows Hampshire One – a massive improvement on last season.

Elsewhere, the seconds were beaten 40-33 at Wheatsheaf Cabin Crew.

The Wheatsheaf took an early lead with a try and penalty, but the visitors fought back with a try from Will Bush that their captain Aaron Barker converted. Granell then scored a well-worked try and the opposition fought back with a penalty and converted try. Not to be outdone, Oli Harvey went under the posts on the stroke of half-time with Barker converting to give Ellingham a 19-18 lead at the break.

Wheatsheaf started the second half strongly and were rewarded with a converted try and penalty. Granell went off injured, but Harvey got his second try with Barker kicking a good conversion. With Ellingham’s energy levels sapping Wheatsheaf scored two tries and converted one of them, but Barker scored a try and converted it to win two important losing bonus points.

Ellingham & Ringwood’s thirds put in an impressive performance to beat Oakmeadians 70-22 in their final game of the season.

Ellingham’s centre Will Searle scored a hat-trick of tries, with the others coming from Steve Rowntree, Josh Rowntree, Sean Cox, Steve Carey, Garrett Avis, Josh Berry, Lenny Lawson, Mark Frost and Lee Swyer who also kicked five conversions.
