LAVERSTOCK and Ford ended their campaign with a home defeat on Saturday, losing 3-2 to Tadley Calleva. The young side rued a huge amount of missed chances and were punished for it.

Lavvy goals from Archie Lovegrove and Adam Bourner weren’t enough for the side who finished the season in sixth place in Sydenhams Division One.

It was the visitors who took the lead on 43 minutes. A Laverstock move was broken up and the counter resulted in George Hallahan scoring from a cross.

Tadley Calleva doubled their lead through Brett Denham early in the second half, but Lovegrove pulled one back for the home side, getting on the end of a great cross by Kieran Mulchay.

But Tadley restored their two goal lead just a minute later. Laverstock did pull a goal back late on when Bourner converted his spot kick rebound. Mulchay could have earned Lavvy a point at the death but his strike hit the upright to give Tadley the win.

Joint managers Liam McConnell and Rob Lakeman told JournalSport: “Missed chances cost us again, we should have put them to bed in the first half but we didn't.

“We played some fantastic football, just as we have most of the season but unfortunately we haven't done enough.

“It's obviously disappointing to miss out on targets set and we all feel it.”
