SALISBURY Sparks basketball U14 team overcame Didcot Devils I to become league champions, by beating the Oxfordshire side by 56 points to 18.

The side had beaten Reading Rockets and Didcot Devils II to get to the final, and looked in control throughout the whole game.

In a fast paced 1st quarter the Sparks came out fired up and by the 6th minute their running offence had given them an 18-4 lead, and at half time they lead by 34-12. The Sparks increased their lead to 48-18 by the end of the 3rd quarter and in the 4th Didcot held Salisbury to only eight points, but their lead was far too superior.

Despite the whole team putting in a tremendous amount of effort in the game Charles Kantolina was named MVP.

The Sparks U12 also made it to the final and took on Kestrel Girls in the division 2 final which took place at Winchester University. The Kestrels Girls took a 10-3 lead at the end of the first quarter, Salisbury got the only three points in the second quarter with Fin Tully scoring one and William Cook getting two which came from shooting fouls against the Kestrels.

With three minutes to play in the 4th the Sparks pulled back to within 6 at 19-13 after points from Miguel Hinojosa, Jamie Duckett and Jacob Davis. However the Kestrels defence locked down the Sparks for the rest of the quarter. Despite the loss it had been a great season for the U12.
