SALISBURY FC came out 4-1 winners over local rivals Downton on Tuesday night at Wick Lane.

New signings Marvin Brooks and Mark Francis both bagged their first goals for Salisbury, as well as goals from Kailan Gould and Eddie Perrett.

Tom Aldridge scored for the Robins.

Downton had the first real chance of the game. Aldridge was played through on goal, with just the keeper in his way, but Charlie Searle in the Salisbury goal did well to keep the score goalless.

Salisbury’s first goal came in the 14th minute. Jake Wannell played the ball out to Gould on the left and he then made a great run into the box and crossed, for Brooks to stroke home his first goal in white and black.

Brooks could have had a handful of goals in the first half after his first, but failed to trouble the keeper with his latter efforts.

The Whites made plenty of second half substitutions, and it was trialist Flavio Tavares who set up Salisbury’s second goal.

His cross was met by Francis, who couldn’t miss, to score his first goal for the Whites.

With the score at 2-0 Downton pulled a goal back following a free kick.

Second half goal keeper Ball couldn’t keep hold of the ball, and Aldridge followed up and put the ball into the back of the net.

The Whites then restored their two goal lead.

Gould scored following a cross from the right and Salisbury continued to look dangerous on the attack.

They then scored their fourth goal as Perrett chested the ball down, following a cross from the left, and smashed it low into the bottom corner to give the Whites the win.

Downton’s next pre-season fixture is at home against Littlehampton on Saturday, July 29, and Salisbury’s next game is against Weston-super-Mare on the same day.
