AMESBURY Town suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat in their first league match of the season against Blackfield and Langley.
The killer goal came on 67 minutes. Joe Butcher found space in the area and fired the home.
Amesbury battled well throughout the match, and could have taken the lead on seven minutes, when a Connor Millar free kick was volleyed home by Kieran Stephens, but referee blown for a foul by Liam Gavin.
Amesbury nearly snatched the lead two minutes before the break, when a Cameron Roach free kick forced home keeper Bradley Snelling to tip over the bar.
The Blues had another golden chance to take the lead on 57 minutes, but Connor Millar’s effort was saved at point blank range from six yards.
With 67 minutes gone Blackfield finally took the lead and the goal lifted the home side. Amesbury introduced three substitutes, Chris Blackall, Jake Watson and Matt Sherfield for their debuts, but were unable to break down a well organised home defence.
The team will look to bounce back in the FA Cup tie with Eversley and California on Saturday.
