UP and and coming bowler, Nick Revell from Alderbury has excelled himself at this year’s national championships at Worthing where he played in the Under 25 Singles Competition.

Nick qualified for the national finals by becoming runner-up in the Bowls Wiltshire Championships earlier in the season when he lost to Wayne Snook by the narrowest of margins 21-20.

The young Alderbury Bowls Club member played three rounds, beating Edward Morris (Essex) 21-14, Ben Powell (Nottinghamshire) 21-16 and Mike Woodbridge (Gloucestershire) 21-17. The next day he defeated (Paul Woolford) Kent 21-8 in the quarter-finals before losing the semi-final to Tristan Morton (Huntingdonshire) 14-21.

At only 17 years old, Nick is also due to take part in the national Under 18 Finals.

IN the New Forest Leagues, Downton’s Division 1 team will remain in the top flight after Nigel Hart’s triple won at Waterside.

However the Division 4 team, despite having their match rained off, were relegated when the teams below them both won.

In Division 2 Fordingbridge were crowned champions and both they and West Moors will be playing in Division 1 next season.

In the knock-out competitions, Downton have two teams in the finals. The ladies triple of Jean Cousins, Maureen Conley and Mary Brown beat a team from Braeside in the semi-final.

In the men’s section Bob Tanner, Dave Colgrave and Ron Poore beat an Iford Bridge triple and will now proceed to the finals on September 6.

In the Salisbury and District Ladies’ League, Downton beat Wilton last Friday but on the following day the men’s 4 Rink League team lost their final game of the season to Warminster.

Amesbury have won section D of the 4 Rink League and will play either Holt or Spencer Moulton in the quarterfinal.

ANN Hindley, Margaret Griffin and Ruth Futcher have created club history at Wilton Bowls Club by becoming the first Officers’s Triple from the club to reach the ladies county final. They achieved this by winning their county (south) final 21-4 when they played Rosemary Bradbury, Sue Ochyra and Marguerite Alexander of Devizes Bowls Club. They now travel to Box on September 4 for the final where they play either Westlecot or North Wilts.

Ann and Margaret have also reached the Salisbury and District Ladies’ finals, held at Salisbury Bowls Club this Sunday. Ann plays Ann Humphries of Amesbury in the ladies singles and Ann and Margaret play Trish Jarrett and Beryl Smith of Great Bedwyn in the pairs.
